The trailing spirit of anger that caught-up with Moses in the wilderness journey from Egypt to the Promised Land originated in his grandfather Levi. Jacob cursed the anger of Simeon and Levi over the raping of their sister Diana. Household wickedness manifesting in the opposition by Miriam and Aaron also played a part.

But Moses’ greatest undoing in fulfilling his ministry of leading the children of Israel into Canaan was the mixed multitude that followed him from Egypt. They dogged his steps at every stage of the transition.

At the waters of Meriba they provoked him to breaking point. He could no longer hold himself. He struck Jesus twice, a sin unto physical death.

There was nobody who could intercede for him. He saw but could not enter Canaan.

Anger is a spirit. If it manifests in your life, deal with it before it drags you into the pit. It will be a tragedy to miss the rapture of the church because of anger.

Deal with it now.

In most cases Satan does not come out boldly to entice followers of Christ to commit sin. He knows it is not their nature. Instead, he uses subtle ways to make sin look less sinful. It is called compromise. It is a spirit. It is a very effective satanic strategy to put saints in bondage.

As children of God we are commanded to overcome the principles of the world by not being conformed to the cosmic system of life. One of the principles of the world currently ravaging the Christian community is compromise.  “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

Conformity to this world

The world is structured in such a way that everything is done in direct opposition to God. The world’s plans and purposes are contrary to the plans and purposes of God. What the world expects is adherence to its modes and ways of doing things. Where that fails then half-obedience is acceptable.

Compromise Is Enticing

Four compromises were offered by Pharaoh to Moses on the command to let the people of Israel go from Egypt. The standard of God is “… to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?”

Egypt is a type of the world. Pharaoh is a type of Satan. What would have happened if Moses had compromised? The deliverance of the Jews from Egyptian bondage would have suffered a setback.

In their march to freedom, Israel was told to utterly destroy those occupying the Promised Land. The people of Gibeon deceived Joshua and the Elders of Israel.  Although ‘Joshua made them woodcutters and water carriers for the congregation and for the altar of the Lord’ the commandment of the Lord had been breached.

Saul the first king of Israel was commanded by God to “… go and attack Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them. But kill both man and woman, infant and nursing child, ox and sheep, camel and donkey … but Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep, the oxen, the fatlings, the lambs, and all that was good, and were unwilling to utterly destroy them. But everything despised and worthless, that they utterly destroyed.” That compromise was the beginning of the downfall of King Saul.

The spirit of compromise is harnessed by half-obedience or outright rejection of truth in order to achieve an objective which is intended to be pleasing to God. Half-obedience is not obedience at all.

God takes delight more in obedience than in sacrifices. In this connection, the most effective weapons used by Satan to derail heaven-bound pilgrims are IGNORANCE, GRADUALISM and REPETITION.

Ignorance is a terrible disease.  Knowledge is power.  It is not easy to put an educated man under bondage.  It is not easy to make a person in whom the word of God dwells richly to compromise the tenets of Christian pilgrimage.

Wisdom is profitable to direct. Get wisdom get understanding and refuse to be deformed for lack of knowledge.

Gradualism is the principle of one step at a time.  The first step may be imperceptible.  Diligent application of pressure leads to the second step.  Many people have committed avoidable sins due to peer pressure.  Heinous infractions of God’s law sometimes take a long time to mature.

You can never be addicted to street drugs if you refuse to TRY the first shot.

Repetition is the principle that it is easier to repeat a sinful act than get involved in it the first time.  A Christian does not have the habit of committing sin, but once he falls into it, and does nothing quickly to achieve restoration he or she can easily fall into the same sin again and again.

The spirit of repetition will then begin to harden the heart over that particular sin until it becomes customary to act or think that way. Soon it becomes normative and strenuous effort is applied to justify it.

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” (1 Cor 15:58).

Once-saved-always-saved teaching or what is often referred to as eternal security is a weird doctrine.

It’s the desire of our heavenly Father that all be saved and stand before Him in eternal happy relationship. “For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Tim 2:3-4 NKJV).

Not all men can be saved. Some will not believe the gospel of salvation. Man has freewill and can exercise volition anyway he wants. God does not violate human preference or the lack of it.

There are two reasons for not participating in the rapture of the church of Jesus Christ:

#1 Lack of regeneration

This means refusal or failure to be born again. Regeneration means to be born again or translated from death to life.

1 Cor 15

3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,

4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures. (NKJV)

1 Cor 15

21 For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead.

22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.  (NKJV)

Luke 13

2 And Jesus answered and said to them, “Do you suppose that these Galileans were worse sinners than all other Galileans, because they suffered such things?

3 “I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.

4 “Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem?

5 “I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.” (NKJV)

#2 Defilement

A born again Christian is the Temple of the Holy Spirit. Defilement is the term used to describe filthiness arising from iniquities that give birth to spots, wrinkle and blemish in the life of a Christian.

1 Corinthians 6

15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not!

16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.”

17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.

1 Corinthians 3

16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

17 If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.  (NKJV)

By reason of blindness deceptively hoisted on the minds of unbelievers by the god of this world, the greatest obstacle in life facing sinners is translation from death to life.

Believers are commanded to be holy in order to receive a glorified body and be made perfect.   The greatest challenge facing saints of God is how to avoid filthiness of the flesh and spirit.

However, to live a holy life is possible. Let the saints say: “Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

[This is for born again Christians only. An unsaved person cannot confess his or her sins, but can confess Jesus as personal Lord and Savior.]

A woman posted this on her Facebook wall

“I was raped by a supposed friend (someone I thought I could trust). Left in shame and shock I could not tell anyone about my ordeal. I kept it to myself and went about my normal life.

“Some weeks later after I came back from a vigil I started feeling weak so I went to a nearby hospital and ran some tests. To my greatest shock I tested positive to pregnancy.

“I told the man involved who after much plea convinced me to have an abortion which will be kept a secret.

“I went in for an abortion however before the procedure I asked God to forgive me for what I was about to do.”

This is the attitude of many faith-based Christians. They know that what they are doing or about to do is wrong, but go ahead to do it claiming 1 John 1:9 as cover. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Some even claim that the end justifies the means, especially in money matters by assuming that using money and material things acquired wrongfully to work the works of God is justifiable. Some pay more than ten percent tithe on stolen money to silence their conscience.

God does not answer prayers that are not according to His will. His will has been expressed for all to use as benchmark for conduct. The same Bible that talks about forgiveness of sin also talks about punishment for transgressing the commandments of God.

Willful sinning is guaranteed to disqualify from entering heaven. “If we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries.”  (Heb 10:26-27 NKJV)

Take heed to avoid provoking the wrath of God on yourself. Let the Holy Spirit lead you at all times in all situations. “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”

Every human being on planet earth has a controller. There are two kingdoms and both are mutually exclusive. A person is either controlled by the Spirit of God through implanted Hypostatic Chip also known as Incorruptible Seed or by a demon implanted by the prince of the power of the air who is the god of the kingdom of darkness. It is futile for two people with conflicting and opposing controllers to presume to walk together for the common good of both. It does not work.

The failure of Moses at the waters of Meribah is traceable in part to the mixed multitude that followed him from Egypt to Canaan. “Now the mixed multitude who were among them yielded to intense craving; so the children of Israel also wept again and said: ‘Who will give us meat to eat?’” (Num 11:4). Part of the multitude yielded to the Spirit that followed Moses while another part yielded to cravings of the flesh, the football field of the devil.

Nehemiah a great reformer got it right: “So it was, when they had heard the Law, that they separated all the mixed multitude from Israel.” (Neh 13:3). No sentiments.

Jesus promised to build His Church. The Church of Jesus Christ is neither an organization like denominational setups nor cathedrals that look magnificent. The church is an organism comprising those called out from the Gentile and Jewish groups. There are three groups of people on earth. The church is one body.

In the days following the inauguration of the church Jews and Gentiles who believed the gospel message were admitted into the mystical body of Christ, which is the church. Nobody owned the ‘church.’

In today’s denominational setup unbelievers are invited to church in the hope that they will believe and be saved. Evidence of history has shown that the ‘church’ began to lose steam when unbelievers without invitation “crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Jude 1:4)

God has a standard for everything He does. Anytime God’s instructions are flouted chaos and confusion follow. God said to Moses: “see to it that you make them according to the pattern which was shown you on the mountain.”

Jesus told His disciples to go into the world and preach the gospel to every creature, baptizing and making disciples of those who believe. Denominationalism is a subtle attempt to entrench the spirit of ‘tower of babel’ in the church of Jesus Christ.

In this end time period God is not in the business of planting new denominations in cities over-flooded with all manner of independent churches. This is the gleaning season. God’s interest is in redirecting the church back to the Acts chapter two model:

Acts 2

40 And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.”

41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.

46 So continuing daily with one accord in the temple (EVANGELISM), and breaking bread from house to house (DISCIPLESHIP), they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart,

47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And THE LORD ADDED TO THE CHURCH DAILY THOSE WHO WERE BEING SAVED. (NKJV emphasis added)

I find it difficult to understand how a mixed multitude, a gathering of believers and unbelievers, can be called the church of Jesus Christ. “He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” (John 1:11-13 NKJV). You must be born of God to become a child of God.

You must be born two times to belong to the church of Jesus Christ. First is physical birth then followed by spiritual birth, which can occur from the age of accountability upwards to physical death.

Only those born by God can be called Christian. There are three groups of people on the earth: Gentiles, Jews and Christians. You cannot be a Gentile and a Jew at the same time; neither can you be a Jew and a Christian at the same time.

Gathering Gentiles and Christians together in the guise of worshipping God is perhaps one of the reasons there is no revival in this end-time church. Unbelievers are like unborn babies in the womb of a pregnant woman. To group them with believers in the guise of worshipping God in spirit and truth is not only futile but counterproductive.

Ministers of the gospel with mixed multitudes in their assemblies would appear to have created comfort zones for unbelievers in their midst. If such people fail to be saved, as is common with those who seem to have become too familiar with God and His ways, God may require their blood at the hands of their pastors.

Generally, unbelievers in church are concerned with pleasing God with their zeal for the ‘house’ of God and the hope of receiving a befitting funeral when they die. They do not know the danger they face if they die in that state, that is, without being born again.

Jesus did not take delight in calling the Syrophenician woman a dog. That was the only way to pull her off her comfort zone. It worked.

Jesus was pleased as the kingdom of darkness gave up that family. “Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith.” That great faith would have eluded her if Jesus had not shocked her with her real identity.

The church needs revival. Believers and unbelievers cannot be revived on the same platform. Believers need growth in grace. Unbelievers need to be born of God before they can be added to the church.

Therefore, the first step in bringing revival to this end-time church is to apply the Acts model in separating the church of Jesus Christ from the world. The need is urgent. The coming of the Lord is near.

How can that be done?

The next post will address that.
